Earth Hour In India

In the past we have seen about world Earth hour now in our Nation.

With several houses and commercial establishments switching off lights and electrical appliances for an hour, Bangalore joined hundreds of cities across the world on Saturday in observing Earth Hour.

Earth Hour, observed between 8.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m., was in support of the global initiative by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness about climate change and its effects.

Earlier in the Morning, organisations and students from the city held various program mes to raise awareness about the event.

While the National Cadet Corps (NCC) took out a rally in Cubbon Park, students of the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology held a flash mob in Mantri Square in the evening to spread the message of “saving energy” and extended their support to the initiative.

Among commercial establishments, it was hotels and information technology companies that took the lead in the global event. ITC Group of Hotels had a ‘candlelight only' dinner at its restaurants during the hour. A release from the company said that apart from shutting off all non-essential lighting, posters were put up in public areas, encouraging guests to leave their rooms and turn off lights during the hour.

Infosys undertook a number of initiatives, including a centrally coordinated one-hour power switch off across all its offices.
